Duncan joined the Lifeways team in the fall of 2023. He brings 30 years of professional archaeological experience to the job. Duncan studied archaeology in Calgary (B.Sc. Calgary 1994) before heading to the UK, where he spent 17 years in the commercial consulting sector. There he undertook projects as varied in subject matter as Mesolithic lithic scatters, Roman Imperial bathhouses, and Second World War coastal defences. A highlight was supervising the high-profile Silbury Hill restoration work and archaeological recording in 2007 and 2008. In addition to his work in the UK, Duncan has conducted archaeology in France, Italy, Iceland, and Albania, and never misses an opportunity to practise his craft somewhere new.
Since returning to Canada in 2012, Duncan has gained experience in Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, can hold permits in Alberta and Saskatchewan, and is working towards BC Field Director status. Duncan particularly enjoys doing public outreach and teaching archaeological field methods.
