Lifeways staff members are well-versed in the use of Geographic Information Systems to collect and manage small and large databases. Lifeways uses GIS to create and manage models of archaeological potential for clients, manage databases of site location and significance, and to record and map site locations in the field.
We also use GIS to produce many of our detailed maps of site and artifact distributions for our HRIA and mitigation reports. Our knowledgeable staff is capable of in-depth types of analyses such as view-shed or least cost path analyses. These GIS skills allow us to handle large amounts of site information for clients with large development footprints and to communicate effectively with those clients and government regulators. With this expertise we are able to provide our clients with the best available datasets to help with short- and long-term planning vis-à-vis historical resources. The increasingly reliance by government regulators on these GIS datasets makes this a crucial asset at Lifeways.
